Position Overview
The Formulation Chemist will work to support strategic technology projects, assist in the development of new products, re-engineering products, and assist in maintaining existing products including routine Quality Control analysis. This position will also write analytical reports and maintain/troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Optimize current formulations to improve upon stability profiles for regulatory approval and long-term stability when necessary.
Support in the development of formulation prototypes and evaluate them for chemical and physical properties, performance, and stability.
Prepare product prototype samples for field testing for efficacy and safety.
Support scale-ups from prototype to commercial products including process and equipment information.
Prepare sample for QC/QA analysis through standard preparation, extraction, and dilution techniques.
Perform QC/QA analysis on raw materials or final products using instrumentation such as pH meter, Densitometer, HPLC, ICP and other techniques.
Perform short and long term stability studies on raw and finished products.
Ability to work in a team collaboratively and also have ability to recognize unexpected results and independently work to solve the problem.
Utilize multiple types of chemistry (ie. formulations, analytical, and organic chemistry) and develop procedures as needed.
Create reports and required documentation needed for products such as registration documents, certificates of analyses, method write-ups, standard operating procedures, and summary reports.
Document and record all raw data (i.e. sample weights, instrument calibration data, sample results, etc.) following company policies and procedures.
Maintains familiarity on use of all applicable equipment, systems, and procedures (SOPs)
Maintains current and accurate documentation
Maintains clean, orderly, and safe laboratory work area
Follow all EH&S Procedures and exhibit safe working behavior. Participate in Facility EH&S meetings and complete all assigned EH&S training.
Complies with company policies and quality control guidelines
Stays abreast of relevant current technology and applicable chemistry
Ability to work in the plant and communicate with production staff when needed.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Chemistry required; Masters degree in Chemistry desirable
Previous experience (3+ years) working as an analytical, organic, or as a chemist in applicable field
Previous experience in organic synthesis, process chemistry, formulations chemistry, and analytical chemistry highly desired
Significant understanding on the use, interpretation, and maintenance of analytical instrumentation (primarily HPLC, GC, LC/MS, GC/MS, and ICP-OES)
Ability to communicate interdepartmentally between all teams including production, sales, QC/QA, R&D, and regulatory
Experience working with hazardous materials required
Must be able to work in a team environment and independently in problem solving
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products
