POSITION SUMMARY

  • Provides leadership and supervision of the Rehab Services department.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises Rehab Services employees
  • Provides the manager with input on policies/procedures, operational and capital budgets, staff

performance/competency

  • Oversees orientation of new staff to the departments and existing staff to new procedures and

equipment

  • Assesses learning needs for staff and develops competency measures to meet Rehab

standards

  • Monitors time and attendance and makes necessary adjustments through the Kronos

timekeeping system

  • Justifies, coordinates and consults with the manager in the selection, hiring, promotion,

counseling, performance appraisal, discipline and termination of all departmental personnel

  • Monitors educational documentation and coordinates with Human Resources department
  • Monitors internal quality assurance programs
  • Monitors inventory and ordering process for department
  • Works collaboratively and fosters communication with other departments
  • Excels in duties of an inpatient and outpatient Physical Therapist
  • Evaluates patients in terms of goals for physical therapy treatments/modalities
  • Establishes plan of care, in accordance with physician’s orders, to achieve goals; implements

appropriate treatment modalities

  • Evaluates effectiveness of treatments, modifies care plan as needed to reach identified goals
  • Assesses educational needs of patient/family/caregiver and provides education to meet

identified needs

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team during course of treatment and discharge planning to

continuum following discharge

  • Completes documentation that accurately reflects care provided and meets clinical,

organizational, and reimbursement requirements

  • Oversees care provided by physical therapy assistants
  • Develops staff schedule for departments with manager’s approval
  • Participates on interdisciplinary committees, as assigned

  • Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable

to the position

  • Exercises good judgment, demonstrates effective critical thinking skills
  • Flexible, able to prioritize and address multiple responsibilities concurrently
  • Works effectively under stress and frequently changing job requirements/situations
  • Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public

  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
  • Proficient in providing education to patients, families and co-workers

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

  • Licensed as a Physical Therapist in the State of Oregon
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or must obtain within

60 days of hire date. BLS certification must be obtained by the last day of the month after the

60 day grace period

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Five years’ experience as a physical therapist in an acute care setting preferred
  • One or more years of lead or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in teaching adults (1:1 and in groups) preferred

Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements

  • Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
  • Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected

patient care needs

  • Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision
  • Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects
  • Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair

or wheelchair

  • May be required to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on

telephone

  • May require periodic use of personal computer
