Plans, coordinates, performs product design, testing and/or analysis work for a complete project of moderate scope or for a significant portion or a sub-system of a major and diverse project. Operates in a team environment, providing input to design solutions and participating in design reviews. May assign, coordinate and review portions of the work to support personnel. Decisions are made within established guidelines and may be reviewed by supervisors. Duties: Executes high level applications to more complex problems. Analyzes assignments and determines engineering specifications which must be fulfilled for complex problems or projects of moderate scope. Produces and/or evaluates possible design solutions to improve cost, quality and performance based on specialized knowledge of engineering applications. This may include possible involvement of other functional engineers, supply management and/or supplier personnel. Compiles and furnishes necessary information (engineering decisions and reports of pertinent design analyses data) to document the design solution required for building of prototypes and adoption of the design with possible involvement of other functional engineers, supply management and/or supplier personnel. Provides technical support to marketing, manufacturing, quality and supply management organizations. Develops and/or executes test or analysis plan for product verification and validation. Applies knowledge of company products, policies and practices to provide economies through standardization of parts and products.

Specific Position Requirements


Software Controls (1-5 years experience) and other electronic controls background.

As an Embedded Software Controls Engineer at John Deere Power Systems in Waterloo, Iowa, you will be part of a team that delivers embedded software controls for diesel engines. In addition you will:

• Collaborate with and support the design, calibration, and aftertreatment groups to identify and gather the system level and feature level requirements for embedded diesel engine software controls
• Maintain and support current production controls systems by making the necessary changes to existing feature requirements 
• Utilize Model Based Control methodologies for the development and implementation of the controls system to the satisfaction of the system and feature requirements 
• Utilize Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow simulation tools and Hardware in the Loop testing to verify and validate the execution of the software controls 
• Perform and/or support product verification and validation testing which occurs on-engine and in-vehicle, including both test cell, and vehicle test support 
• Create and maintain software builds, calibration files, and interface documentation in support of the calibration, testing and delivery of calibrated engine controls systems for use in production
• Available to potentially travel up to 10% of time internationally
• Full time flexible work schedule, some early mornings required.
