Microbiology Technician, Strain DiscoveryThe Microbiology team is at the forefront of trait and strain discovery in the larger Microbiome Discovery group. Our goal is to manage and maintain a microbial strain collection of greater than 100,000 unique microorganisms, in addition to facilitating multiple internal and external collaborations. The Microbiology Technician will demonstrate meticulous aspect technique required to maintain culture integrity in large and diverse microbial sets. Duties:? Champion aseptic techniques to maintain sterile working environment? Microbial isolation from diverse populations? Optimize and conduct biochemical and enzymatic assays? Communicate results effectively to diverse audiences? Maintain meticulous lab notebooks
Duties:
• Champion aseptic techniques to maintain sterile working environment
• Optimize medium/high throughput workflows for growing 100s of microbial strains at for downstream NGS
• Communicate results effectively to diverse audiences
• Maintain meticulous lab notebooks
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a biological science field related to microbiology along with 2-5 years of lab experience with the following:
• Hands-on experience in aseptic technique (BSL2 environment)
• Experience with automation/liquid handlers/automated pipettors
• Ability to multi-task in laboratory setting
• Strong organizational skills to maintain large data sets in lab and LIMS
• Ability to perform repetitive movements; for example, pipetting motion
• Experience in NGS and Oxford Nanopore sequencing technology (preferred)
• Working experience with Gram positive spore forming bacteria
