Job Description:
The CNC Machinist is responsible for producing machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating CNC mills, lathes, and manual machines, as well as various shop equipment including drill presses, wet saws, belt sanders, and hydraulic presses. Materials commonly used include, but are not limited to, steel, aluminum, and plastics. Most work involves production quantities, so the ability to maintain a steady, efficient pace with a strong sense of urgency is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Studies work orders, blueprints, orthographic drawings, reference planes, surface locations, and machining parameters, including interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) to plan machining work.
- Programs and operates 3 Axis CNC mills using G-codes and conditional logic, setting zero/reference points, tool registers, offsets, and compensation. Maintains specifications by monitoring machining operations – drilling, tapping, cutting, turning, and facing.
- Conducts critical measurements, detecting malfunctions, and conducts troubleshooting processes. Adjusting and reprogramming controls; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes via ISO9001 standards.
- Understanding geometry and trigonometry to calculate requirements and proving part programs.
- May be required to set up and operate manual mills and lathes indicating vices and tramming heads. Operate drill presses, wet saws, belt sanders, and hydraulic press. Conducts precision measuring with calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, depth gauges, and rulers.
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; sharpening and replacing worn tools, requisitioning repairs through purchasing department.
- Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; requisitioning and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum 3 Years’ Experience
- Experience programming and editing G-code for CNC machines
- Strong organizational skills
- Comprehension of Intermediate Math (Geometry, Trigonometry)
- Quality Control including First Article, PPAP
- Verbal and written communication
- Interpreting Blueprints and technical drawings
- Supply Management, Inventory Control
- Tool management knowledge
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Attention to detail
Preferred but Not Required:
- Supply Management, Inventory Control
- Experience in Sheet Metal Manufacturing
- CAM Software – SolidWorks
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Standards
