Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • 1-5 years experience
  • Hands on experience with materials processing and equipment based work (e.g., mixing, mechanical or pilot scale equipment, grinding/finishing).
  • Experience and comfort working in a lab or manufacturing environment with strong attention to procedural adherence and documentation.
  • Hands on experience with general laboratory tasks
  • Basic data processing and analysis
  • Manages and documents projects and tasks effectively with supervision

Preferred:

  • Experience in R&D, pilot scale, or manufacturing settings.
  • Exposure to abrasives, or mechanical/materials processing.
  • Experience supporting engineers/scientists and maintaining lab documentation systems.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Research Technician include:

  • Safely performs specialized R&D assignments, involving testing, analyzing, improving, installing, operating, and/or solving problems concerning our processes, equipment, and products.
  • Supports engineers and scientists in R&D team with their projects
  • Prepares/processes materials samples including:

- Active involvement in standard and exploratory experiment design,

- Routine laboratory activity to make or prep materials and test samples,

- Development work with non-routine R&D assignments such as design of fixtures for experimental set-up and establishing proper data acquisition.

  • Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Work in both the R&D and industry environments at the same time

Comments/Special Instructions

Must haves:

Hands on lab or pilot scale mixing and molding experience

Strong ability to follow detailed procedures and document work accurately

Comfort operating equipment and troubleshooting basic issues

 

Experience: Prior R&D or industrial/lab experience required; total years flexible based on skill strength

Onsite: 100% onsite

Experiment Involvement: Primarily execution; participation in discussions encouraged

Preferred Background: Abrasives mixing/molding preferred; ceramic mixing/molding acceptable

Equipment: Mixers, presses; plus Rockwell hardness or Instron testing familiarity a bonus

Fixtures: Use of simple jigs/fixtures; operate presses and assist with basic process troubleshooting

Tools: Thermocouples for data collection; Excel for data entry/analysis

Documentation: ELN, lab notebooks, SharePoint/shared folders
