Qualifications:
Required Qualifications for Position:• Applicant must have 3-5 years of welding experience and be able to read design drawings and plan physical layout of facilities for welding operations.
• Will be required to obtain Columbia Gas System Combination “A” welding permit in both methods. The classification of Welder Sr., A, B, or C will be granted only after the employee has passed the necessary qualifying tests at a Company welding school and holds a welding card indicating that he is qualified for a particular classification.• Individual should have basic math, reading and writing skills to safely perform all aspects of the position.• The position required working in all weather conditions.
• The applicant should live within a reasonable distance to perform timely emergency response.
• Must demonstrate basic personal computer (PC) skills, and must have the ability to obtain basic skills in using a hand held computer.• Must be able to obtain basic skills in using Work Management System.
The successful candidate must pass an initial screening examination and future progressions depend on successful completion of specified welding tests. Due to extensive training, the candidate must commit to at least 2 years in this position based on performance and skill level. May be required to work at other locations. May be required to work weekends. Out of town travel may be required. Must be willing to perform non-skilled work activities. Annual and semi-annual re qualification test must be passed as required by Columbia Gas Policy. Motor vehicle record check required. Must wear heavy, hot, protective clothing, leather safety shoes, safety glasses, full-face shields, welding hoods and gloves.
Responsibilities:
Job Summary: Performs oxy-acetylene and electric welding duties on pressure steel piping, equipment, fittings and makes hot taps. Acts as "job leader" for welders helpers and others assisting during the welding operation. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:• Performs electric and oxy-acetylene welding to construct, repair, and maintain pipeline and associated facilities.• Performs welding related to construction of new facilities; studies prints, layout materials, interpret codes and regulations.• Acts as “lead person” on construction/fabrication jobs.• Fabricates gate settings, M&R settings, drops, and tanks.• Welds leakage repair devices (sleeves) onto pressurized pipelines.• Makes taps and tie-in connections.• May act as welding inspector on construction projects performed by external sources, complies, prepares, and maintains records and logs related to construction and repair activities.• Assists with completion and construction progress reports.• Performs routine maintenance and inspection on welder and equipment.• Assists area personnel in pipeline O&M activities when not involved in welding.• Using PC and/or handheld device, completes Job Orders, enters data into Work Management System
Operates company truck.
